My granddaddy Zeb raised horses in Alabama, my grandpa Dan was an officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; my father was a jockey until he was thrown and no longer able to ride. Me? I’m a farrier … and my daughter, Shandonna … she’s an equestrian.
A few years ago Shandonna met Shoshi, a thoroughly fabulous thoroughbred. After intense training and a year of qualifying, Shandonna & Shoshi were accepted to the Devon Horse Show. We were all elated … this was the dream … and now it was about to come true. Then … whammo … a drunk driver hurtled through my fence and slammed into my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. With only 9 days until show time we were catapulted into the amazing world of online car searches. We needed something fast and I’m not easy to please. The drive to Philadelphia towing a horse trailer means getting the right truck for hauling, comfort. I don’t cut corners with my precious cargo.
I was amazed at how easy shopping for a vehicle online could be. Within an hour I had set up test drives and the following day I signed the lease. I’d always been happy with my Dodge but this time I chose the Chevy Silverado 2500, a 6.6 L Turbo-Diesel V8 under the hood, 10 speed transmission, advanced towing technology and an interior I feel right at home in … comfortable and with every new-fangled gadget right at hand. The perfect way to head to Philly … with my little filly, her little filly and my great big beautiful steed.
As a side note, this was our first visit to Philadelphia and we loved every minute. Aside from the horse show (what a thrilling experience) the restaurants and people and all those museums are absolutely fabulous. The Eastern State Penitentiary was a highlight of the trip as was the Betsy Ross Museum. The culinary highlight was Zahav … it’s worth driving across the country for … we’ll definitely be back! Another fun find was The Franklin Fountain where we satisfied our sugar craving with The Mt. Vesuvius sundae and a couple of Fizzy Lemonades. Then we jumped back into my glossy new ride and headed back to the wide, wide landscape of our Wyoming home.
